Many policies have uninsured and underinsured motorist benefits. In fact, an automobile policy issued in Arizona must have these benefits included, unless they are specifically waived.
Uninsured Motorist & Underinsured Motorist
Uninsured motorist coverage pays for your bodily injury claim if the person at fault in the accident did not have liability coverage. There is no coverage for the damage to your vehicle, towing charges or rental reimbursement. Coverage for these losses would be under your collision coverage.
Underinsured motorist coverage applies when the person at fault did not have sufficient limits on their coverage to completely compensate you for the injuries you suffered. Again, there is no coverage for damage to your vehicle, towing charges or rental reimbursement.
If the person at fault does not give any insurance information to you or to the police officer, or if you learn later that their policy was not in effect, you do not have to give up hope of being compensated for your injuries.
